For me, the Leopold Leadership training experience has been one of those relatively rare moments in life when not only are high expectations met, they are exceeded. I have no doubt that the training not only greatly improved my abilities to communicate science in a wide range of arenas, but that it did so for every one of the 20 members of my cohort.

Leadership
Where can Leopold Leadership Fellows connect their individual expertise to larger scientific outreach efforts? How can individual scientists be effective in steering changes in policies and practices toward sustainable systems? The goal of this module is to teach participants about leadership activities within scientific societies and associations, and in the broader scientific community and beyond. Participants learn about the range of opportunities for involvement and are taught skills that make them more effective in leadership roles. Discussions in this module focus on: - Leadership opportunities, risks, and rewards
- Strategies to contribute and methods to engage
- Mental models and group dynamics
- Conflict resolution, building consensus, and facilitation techniques
- Identifying target audiences
- Clarifying vision and setting goals
- Starting and sustaining outreach efforts
- Building institutional buy-in and support
