... I have been interviewed by a number of reporters from newspapers, radio and television stations, especially following a 2001 article that I published in Nature on some results from our CO2-enrichment experiment in the Duke Forest. Leopold training proved important to how I honed my message before reporters and cameras, certainly influencing my effectiveness as a communicator... All in all, I can most firmly attest to the importance of my Aldo Leopold experience in fostering my abilities as a communicator of issues in environmental science to the general public. More will come!

Application Guidelines
Training Session Details
To be eligible for a Leopold Leadership Fellowship, applicants must make a commitment to attend both training sessions from start to finish. Both training sessions operate for seven full days beginning at 8:00 a.m. and include site visits, field trips, and evening sessions. The locations of the training sessions are carefully selected. The first session in June is held at a retreat center in Connecticut, allowing the Fellows to be completely removed from the day-to-day distractions that their teaching, research and other duties inevitably create. The second session in September is held in the Washington, D.C. area, allowing easy access to an array of national and international policy agencies, scientific societies, and conservation organizations. The setting makes this session especially meaningful and memorable for the Fellows, providing opportunities to make direct contact with high-level policy makers in the nation's capital.
