It is interesting for me to speculate on why the program had such a big impact on me - certainly the nuts and bolts of the training were essential, but the 'mentoring' and networking were as influential... if not more. Working alongside the group of premier scientists that were involved in the program either as trainers or as participants not only taught me much, but was energizing and motivating. This did not stop with me... I can see my students and postdocs responding to my shift in priorities and slowly shifting theirs. We are not giving up on our research but simply incorporating new perspectives that will ensure our research has a broader impact.

Publicity
After the selection process is complete, press releases announcing the Fellows will be issued to national, regional, and local media outlets. The Leopold Leadership staff collaborates with the public information officers at Fellows' institutions to publicize their awards, and promotional materials will be distributed to Fellows' professional associations and to their alma maters. Leopold Leadership Fellows are encouraged to identify themselves as such on their CVs, in their biographies, and in all outreach settings. The prestige of the Leopold Leadership Fellowship is long-lasting. Fellows become part of an ever-growing network that receives ongoing support and promotion from the program.
