Guidelines

In accordance with instructions on the electronic application form (https://woods-intranet.stanford.edu:8991/cgi-bin/allp_fellow_app.php), applicants must submit the following items that make up the complete application package:

  1. Applicant Information
  2. Policy Relevance of Research (150 words maximum)
  3. Science Outreach and Leadership Evidence (1200 words maximum)
  4. Statement of Commitment (1200 words maximum)
  5. Three letters of recommendation submitted by references using the online form and application ID provided by the applicant. (See the details in "Letters of Recommendation" below.)
Note: Members of the Advisory Board and Selection Jury may not serve as references.
  6. Current CV (5 pages maximum)

All components of the application must be submitted electronically (https://woods-intranet.stanford.edu:8991/cgi-bin/allp_fellow_app.php). Do not send additional documents or other supporting materials.

Policy Relevance of Research: Briefly describe the relevance of your research to public policy; that is, how your work could be used to inform discussions and decisions by policy makers at the local, state/provincial, national, and/or international level.

Science Outreach and Leadership Evidence: Provide brief descriptions of your most significant science outreach and leadership efforts and outcomes.
Note: We seek candidates who are moving beyond the traditional modes of academic outreach to actively engage with NGOs, policy makers, the media and the general public.

Statement of Commitment: Provide your statement of commitment to science outreach and your goals in communicating environmental science to nonscientific audiences. Include specific ideas about how you intend to use the Leopold Leadership training.

Letters of Recommendation: List three individuals who will be submitting letters of recommendation for you. The letters should be from individuals familiar with your scientific record and leadership abilities and who can provide testimony on your commitment broadly to communicate science. References should be carefully selected and given ample notice to write a solid recommendation.
Note: Each reference must submit his or her letter of support electronically, using the online form and the application ID provided by the applicant, by the application deadline. It is applicants' responsibility to provide their references with their application ID and the link to the online recommendation form. More details can be found in the online application form. All recommendations are confidential.
